Yates Construction provided preconstruction and construction management services for the three-phase West Virginia University (WVU) J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital Expansion project. Phase I of the project included a 105,000 SF modification to the front of the hospital to enclose existing open areas for a four-story atrium, additional elevators, and 70,000 SF of shell space for future hospital functions. Phase II of the project included relocating the main roadway in front of the hospital, constructing a new intersection, and altering traffic patterns for better pedestrian and vehicular access and circulation. Phase III of the project included demolishing the current Rosenbaum Family House and Child Development Center and constructing a new 345,000 SF, 10-story patient tower.
The addition connects to the existing hospital on all levels. This project added 114 beds to the hospital and provided larger and more accessible facilities for the Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center and the Emergency Department. Additionally, 15 urgently needed beds for critically ill infants in the WVU Children’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit were also added.
