Yates Construction provided general construction services for the U.S. Highway 49 Reconstruction project. The project begins south of Florence and extends north of Richland, Mississippi, one of Mississippi’s most heavily traveled sections of highway. U.S. Highway 49 sees an average of 51,000 vehicles per day in Richland and 34,000 per day in Florence. This project included widening the existing road from four to six lanes for approximately eight miles. The scope of work includes clearing and grubbing, structural demolition, excavation, grading, drainage, box culvert construction, the construction of three bridges, utility relocations, curb and gutter, asphalt paving, signage, traffic signalization, traffic maintenance, guardrail, striping, and sodding.
Yates performed this major reconstruction project without completely shutting down U.S. Highway 49, leaving two lanes of traffic open in each direction during the day. The project also required driveway coordination with local businesses along U.S. Highway 49.
