Tom Vandergriff Civil Courts Building

Tarrant County

Yates Construction provided construction management services for the Tom Vandergriff (Tarrant County) Civil Courts Building. In the heart of downtown Fort Worth, Texas, this project consists of an asymmetrical scheme with a public plaza, a six-story, 235,000 SF building, and a 26-car underground secured parking garage. It includes 13 courtrooms, including a high-volume 2,800 SF courtroom that can accommodate 120 people for more complex, multiparty litigation. The Civil Courts Building accommodates 12 civil district courts, eight administrative judicial regional offices, district clerks, jury services, and expansion space on the sixth floor for the Second Court of Appeals.

The zero lot line site required stringent safety protocols and around-the-clock construction adjacent to four city streets that never closed. The design mirrors the architecture of the other historic buildings downtown and incorporates regional materials, natural stones, and bricks. The limestone “Angels of Justice” from the original Civil Courts Building were preserved and featured on the front façade of the new Civil Courts Building. The project achieved LEED® Gold certification.
