NASA Marshall Space Flight Center Building 4221 Replacement

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Yates Construction provided general construction services on the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center Replacement. The facility included the construction of a five-story office with a full-height atrium. The building provides offices and workspace for 440 team members supporting Marshall's Human Exploration Development and Operations Office, its Science and Technology Office, and the NASA Engineering and Safety Center.

The facility is designed to follow rigorous federal energy and water efficiency guidelines and has achieved dual certifications, LEED® Silver and Green Globes. The entire structure is specially insulated, with much of the exterior covered in low-emissivity glass that deflects heat, reducing cooling costs. Rooftop solar-powered units absorb energy to augment electrical power, and 99 percent of the building's lighting features cost-efficient LEDs or light-emitting diodes.
