Our History

Incorporated in 1964 by William G. Yates Jr., Yates Construction has steadily grown into a national firm and is considered one of the country’s preeminent solutions for large and complex construction projects. From the company’s early stages, Yates Construction has evolved to develop diverse capabilities. We are passionate about solution-oriented service to our clients and consistently meeting and exceeding their expectations.

While attending The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), Bill Yates begins managing small construction projects for Central Construction.
1963
First significant project as W.G. Yates, General Contractor.
1964
W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Company (Yates Construction) is incorporated.
1970s
The Yates motto “on time, within budget, to your satisfaction” is developed.

Yates Construction purchases Thompson Welding and Machine Works.
1977
Yates Building Supply opens. Edwards Electric Service becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Yates Construction.
1978
Yates Heavy Division is formed.
1979
Nemanco earns a contract to manufacture jeans for Calvin Klein.
1981
Yates Construction purchases Baldwin Sand and Gravel.

Yates Engineering Corporation is established.
1991
The first Yates Construction office outside of Philadelphia, Mississippi opens in Jackson. Superior Asphalt’s Byrum, Mississippi office is opened.
1992
Built by Yates, Splash Casino is the first casino to open in Tunica, Mississippi.
1994
Yates Construction’s Mobile, Alabama office is opened. Construction of the Silver Star Casino in Philadelphia, Mississippi begins.
1996
Construction of the Beau Rivage Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi begins.
1997
The Yates Companies, Inc. is formed. Yates opens an office in Memphis, Tennessee.
1998
Nemanco opens a facility in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Construction of the first condo tower at The Beach Club Resort begins. Yates opens an office in Destin, Florida.

Yates opens an office in Biloxi, Mississippi.
2000
JESCO, Inc., Blaine Construction Corporation, and Merit Electrical, Inc. become subsidiaries of The Yates Companies, Inc.
2002
Yates opens offices in Oxford, Mississippi and in San Antonio, Texas. Yates Services is formed.
2003
Yates opens offices in Atlanta, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida. William G. Yates III is promoted to President/CEO of Yates Construction.
2004
Yates launches its first LEED project, Georgia Tech’s Klaus Building. Yates opens an office in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas.
2005
Construction of Turquoise Place Resort in Orange Beach, Florida begins. Hurricane Katrina devastates the Gulf Coast, affecting many employees in The Yates Companies, Inc. Phase I development of Bloomfield in Pearl, Mississippi begins. Yates Biloxi, Mississippi office following the destruction of Hurricane Katrina.
2006
A Yates affiliated company, Spectrum Capital, is created, and Jason Voyles is named President.
2007
Yates Building Supply moves to a newly constructed 30,000 SF LEED® Gold certified facility.
2009
Yates Construction’s Scholars in the School of Construction Annual Scholarship Fund is created at the University of Southern Mississippi. Yates Construction’s mission statement (To provide value to our clients) and core values (Safety, Integrity, Passion, Commitment) are formally recognized. Yates Museum and Archives opens at the corporate headquarters in Philadelphia, Mississippi.
2010
Yates Construction begins boom decontamination work for BP in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
2011
Yates Constructors opens its office in Birmingham, Alabama and American Industrial Construction is established in Gray, Maine. Yates Engineers is established in Birmingham, Alabama.

Yates Construction launches its strategic vision: “10 Goals by 2015”.
2013
Yates Construction’s first international office opens in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
2014
Yates Construction celebrates its 50th year.
2016
JESCO, Inc. celebrates its 75th anniversary.
2017
Bill Yates named the recipient of the ENR Texas and Louisiana 2017 Legacy Award.
2019
Bill Yates inducted into the Gaming and Hospitality Hall of Fame. The engineering group opens an office in Greenville, South Carolina to meet demand for full-service engineering in the region.
2020
Yates opens its Sacramento, California office. Bill Yates assumes the role of Executive Chairman and William Yates is named President and CEO of The Yates Companies, Inc.
2023
Yates opens its Las Vegas, Nevada office.
2024
Yates Construction celebrates its 60th year.
